Healthy Schools Week with Sports Day Print

Last week, St Margaret's celebrated Healthy Schools week with a range of activities.  Each class had the chance to taste food; design and make their own healthy meal or snack; and take part in a Wake-up and Shake activity session each morning before school.  These sessions included a learned routine in the Infants, to the Cha Cha Slide, Three Lions and YMCA in the Juniors.  Even some parents joined in!

The children (and staff!) were warmed up sufficiently by Wake up and Shake before school to take part in the annual Sports Day.  In the Juniors, houses competed in teams and Walton won the overall competition, retaining the Pegman Cup for the second year in a row.  Amongst many outstanding shows of athleticism, two children within Key Stage Two are to have a "throw-off" at the javelin event, as both threw remarkable distances.  A good time was had by all during Sports Day and we would like to thank all of the children, parents and staff who attended to make both the Infant and Junior Sports Days successful.

Children across the school also made their own healthy snack.  Year Six designed and made their own snack, and other year groups in Key Stage two made their own fruit salads and kebabs.  Year Five had a joint healthy eating party, following the morning Wake up and Shake, which included fruit cocktails and fruit kebabs.  Mr Metcalfe and other members of staff had the joy of tasting food from Year Five - some of the teachers found fruit they didn't know they liked!  Years Four and Three also followed suit, creating their own fruit salads and kebabs.

Other news from Healthy Schools week included the shock result from Class Six - for the first time ever, they won the Healthy Snacks award for the week, with over 80% of the children bringing in a healthy snack each day.  Well done to Class Six - keep it up!

Thanks to the staff for making such fun activities and to Mrs Lewis for co-ordinating the healthy food side of things and with Miss Thomas leading our daily Wake & Shake!
