The information below describes our rationale for teaching PE in our school.

b. PE Curriculum Intent
Developed as part of our Ambition Institute specialist curriculum training:
At St Margaret’s we aim for our children to choose an active lifestyle and develop a love of sport through positive experiences, meaningful education and a culture of daily physical activity. We believe that physical education should inspire an active generation who are equipped with the tools and understanding to make a positive impact on their own physical health and wellbeing and enhance life-long fitness and life choices. We value the importance of an inclusive and holistic curriculum that weaves into all aspects of our daily lives and is accessible by all. We intend to provide a wealth of sports and active experiences that will enrich and inspire our children and encourage exciting opportunities for competition and personal challenge.

Some aspects of our teaching are single subject based but our integrated subject approach ensures that we have the National Curriculum Coverage.

f. PE National Curriculum Purpose
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

The aims for the PE Curriculum are to ensure that all pupils:
• Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
• Are physically active for sustained periods of time
• Engage in competitive sports and activities
• Lead healthy, active lives.
