Learning is determined as 'knowing more and remembering more' of our specified school curriculum.

Curriculum is the planned body of knowledge, skills and attributes pupils are expected to have gained by the end of Key Stage 2.  Over time we have become experts in the field as a result of training from Ambition Institute and Mr T for History!  Our curriculum continues to be ever refining as the reseach informs our curriculuar thinking.

St Margaret's delivers its school curriculum through subject specific planning, which includes the National Curriculum and the Early Years Statutory Framework.

Together with its enrichment opportunities and SMSC, we call it our LION CURRICULUM.

Our Curriculum is as ambitious as the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum can ve viewed here: NATIONAL CURRICULUM (in pdf format).  Each unit is personalised to our local context.

Our School Curriculum is sequential and progressional in the gaining of substantive knowledge (which includes declarative knowledge (what children should know) of Vocabulary', 'People, Places and Events', 'Concepts' and procedural knowledge (what children should do) in 'Procedures'.  Some subjects also have specific disciplinary knowledge directly related to the development of expertise within the subject; how to be scientist, geographers and historians.

Substantive knowledge is shown in our teacher designed KNOWLEDGE BOARDS (pdf format).  Disciplinary knowledge is shown within subject specific plans (in with the Knowledge Boards).  The coverage of the National Curriculum within our broader, richer and deeper personalised School Curriculum can also be viewed in these documents.  We use well-selected schemes to support some of our subjects, both for enriching subject knowledge and for consistency within and between classes/year groups.

Connections between subject disciples

The school has a long term plan of its Lion Curriculum.  The foundation subjects are taught in discrete subject lessons.   The sequence of each subject curriculum is specified on the curriculum subject webpage. To make connections between disciplines and the application of maths and English within these subjects, we provide lesson sequences under the headings:
